Another clunk problem!

Well I have poly tranny mount from when I busted the factory one on my 95z28 a4, but the sound, thump that it made is very similar except before (when the tranny mount busted) it would do it when I accelerated quickly. Now it is doing it when I'm accelerating or when I hit a bump in the road!

Could this be the torque arm bushing or something? I can get it to a lift but what should I be checking when I get it up there?

Thanks!

Could be the torque arm bushing, motor mout....etc. I went and changed all of these when my 94 had a clunk when I hit the gas or a bump, to no avail. It ended up that a bolt on the panhard bar mount had jump a few threads, and it was slapping against the mounting flange. Just something else to think about.

Loose LCA bolts will also clunk. Might also inspect your driveshaft U joints.

Re: Another clunk problem!

Well embarrasing as this is I wanted to followup on this thread so others don't make the same mistake.

It was one of the tranny mount bolts. From the extra vibration it came back out. I guess I didn't tighten down enough while I was under the car, I get nervous about the amount of elbow grease that I use while under there while the car is on carjacks. I took it to a buddy's lift and got it cranked down pretty good so it doesn't happen again. Hope this helps others out!

eh, i had a poly tranny mount on for like 2 weeks before i went to GM and bought a OEM one. i hated how shaky it made the car, when installing yours did the bolts line up perfect like oem? i was putting mine on and it was off by like 5mm or so, so i had to like push the tranny over and put the screw in, which is what was causing the shaking i think. how smooth is yours? maybe my cars just being stupid lol

lined up perfect, I do get a little vibration at high speeds (90+) but it doesn't bother me it's more of a sound vibration than a feel vibration and slp loudmouth2 does a pretty good job of drowning it out at that speed.
