another 3.73 question
Folks:
I need feedback on whether I should go with 3.73 gears.
I have a 95 Z28, auto tranny with 153K highway miles. It has CAI w. K/N filter, Borla exhaust(wide open), pacesetter headers, and LT4 hot cam kit. The car is very well maintained and still looks, and sounds great. It's primarily used as a weekend toy now. I can't get to 1st gear because it has a piece of white plastic in the gear shift area preventing that now. I'm told the gears are 2.73
Long term, I'd like to change the engine even though it's fine now with a radical 383 stroker, and a beefed up rear end to handle the added HP.
As for now, I'd like to remove that piece of white plastic, and change to 3.73 gears. I'm looking for more acceleration off the line and am not concerned about mpg. I get about 17 - 18 mpg now. I'm usually at about 2,000 rpm at 80mph. If I do go with 3.73's should I change something else while I'm in there?
Thanks

I would definitely get a converter as well, that along with gears, and you will have a completely different car. As for the gears, you will also need an install kit and a tune to correct the speedo.
