Annoying Gear Shifter Problem

Every morning, first time I go to put the car in gear, the button on the shifter is hard to engage. If I squeeze it real hard, it finally goes in, and I can hear the safety relay finally click below the dash.. YES I DO HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE!

After this first wrestling match, it works fine for the rest of the day until the next morning...

I don't think it is the brake safety switch, but possibly a contact in the gear shifter. What is the easiest way to take the gear shifter apart?

Thanks.

Unplug the BTSI solenoid (it's under the shift indicator plate) and see if it works freely. That will help you isolate the problem. I think the solenoid has a tendency to be sluggish when cold.

Safety Note: with the solenoid unplugged, you will be able to move the gear selector anywhere at any time when the key is not in the LOCK position.

Shoebox,

You have this 95 down in your head like I have my old 67 even though it has been in storage for 10 years... LOL!

Thanks, I will check that out....

Shoebox,

Should I just disconnect the electrical connector, and what the hell is the trick to do that, or do I remove the shaft?

Thanks

Unplug the electrical connector. There is a little pin you have to pull to be able to unplug.
