My 2.73 A4 car came with steel. The M6 3.42 and A4 3.23 cars supposedly came w/alum, but have seen posts where that wasn't always the case.

There was a TSB to cover vibration at higher speeds. The replacement for these steel shafts of joy were the aluminum shaft. In the LS1's, this new shaft was standard.

Uh, not in my 2001 LS1 Z28- I got the (lack of) performance 2.73 rear end and a steel driveshaft- fixed that, though.....

If your planning on Doing some stuff to your car Id look at another option than another Stock aluminum Driveshaft. Ive seen quite a few brak when they get around the 400 HP range and they start cutting 1.6 60s on a stock weight car.

I had a custom aluminum drive-shaft built locally with 1350 U-Joints front and rear. It has held-up without any problems (10.80s w/ 10.5 slicks and 1.48 60 fts).

The bottom drive-shaft is a stock LS.

I would use a CM shift for a car that is run on a drag strip with sticky tires. If it is purely a street car, than a quality aluminum shaft as pictured would be a good choice.

My custom-built aluminum is holding up at the strip just fine. About 250 10.80-90 runs last season w/ sticky tires (Goodyear 28" x 10.5).
