Advantage of 4.10 gears?
Re: Advantage of 4.10 gears?
Gears multiply the torque available at the rear wheels. Your M6 left the factory with 3.42 gears. By switching to the 4.10's, you have 20% more rear wheel torque than you would have had with the 3.42's. Downside is the fact that your engine will reach redline 20% sooner (20% lower MPH) in each gear. And you may see lower gas mileage due to the higher revs when cruising. But the deep overdrive gears of the T56 help minimize that problem. 6th gear actually becomes useable.
Re: Advantage of 4.10 gears?
If It's an M6, it'll knock ya to your seat, and you'll have a better launch. More torque down low while losing a little high end. Good for bigger cams to get into the power range quicker. Slight loss of gasmilage. That's all I got

94 Camaro Z 28: With the torque of a 383, 4.10 gears may make 1st gear useless unless you're running very sticky tires; then all you have to worry about is your 10 bolt exploding

It really isnt. Gas mileage is a dream, especially on the highway. 70mph and doing 1600 rpm's. But 4.10' swould be the gear to get.

If you have good street tires there will be no traction issues, unless you dump the clutch, DUH.
I have Cooper 2XS Zeon's 275-40-17 and there is no loss of traction when easing the clutch out and mashing the fun pedal as long as its not cold like this time of year. When it is cold there are traction issues which I dont care about since this is not a daily driver and its my Sunday car.
If you want to the dump the clutch at 3K RPM the tires do still grab good for street tires but It will take a toll on the 10 bolt in time. Drag radials, 4.10's, 10 bolts will cause massive explosion even sooner.
In town gas miliage is same if not a tad better but the highway miles are slightly but noticablely lower.
You will be able to shift into 6th and leave it anytime above 40MPH, very nice plus the car is just more fun to drive. You will find yourself shifting a lot less in frequency.
The extra get up and go is great compared to the stockers. The power comes on rocket fast in first gear.
383CID and 4.10s will make for severe traction issues im sure,
Go for it.
