a4 problem code 82 shift solenoid a fault

ok lastnight i drove the car to work just fine. this morning when i went to leave the car only had 2nd and 3rd gear. so i got home hooked it up to my laptop and was throwing code 82 shift solenoid A fault.

this is a 1-2 noid when it is off the car will only stay in 2,3 gear "fail safe"

so is this the rear driver side noid? if so how hard to change, i know i need to drop the pan, and filter to get to it, is it bolted in, or just pushed in?

If im wrong on anything please corect me.

Shift solenoids are easy to change. The shift solenoids are located in the rear of the valvebody. The "A" solenoid is the one on the drivers side. Start by unclipping the wire, and then locate the retaining clip for the solenoid. It'll be located just in front of the solenoid...in a slot in the valve body casting. Use a small screwdriver to pry the clip out. Be careful because the "A" solenoid has a small amount of spring pressure which will want to push the valve out. Hold the slenoid in as you remove the clip, and release pressure on it slowly once the clip is out. push the new solenoid in and replace the clip and wire. At only $15 +/- a piece for shift solenoids, you might want to replace both while you're there.

Re: a4 problem code 82 shift solenoid a fault

I just replaced the pair in my 2000 yesterday with Franks help[piece of cake] I got mine at the dealer G.M. #24230298.[solenoid 1+2 are the same they tried to soak me 35 bucks a piece but when I told them "they were only 15 bucks or so the last time I bought them" it went down to $17.02 each go figure!!! Just be careful like Frank said the drivers side one has spring pressure behind valve so you must hold it while you remove the clip and gently release the solenoid or I imagine things could go flying!!!By the way that was the problem so WHEEEW Later Steve!!!

Re: a4 problem code 82 shift solenoid a fault

My car shifts from what I can tell, solid from 1-2, and 2-3, but 3-4 seems to take longer than normal under full throttle. My tranny is built to handle power, so I wonder if my 3-4 noid is bad? I have only 2k on the rebuild, and it is supposed to handle 800rwhp??
