A4....M6... What are the differences

I've read here and there about the two but I was wondering if someone would post all the differences. I tried to search but A4 and M6 aren't three letter words so looking through each forum individually isn't something I have time for. Thanks in advance.

Please specify what type of info you need. Are you looking to do a conversion and need to know the different parts? Are you looking for performance numbers? Gear ratios?

Are you asking what A4 - M6 means? Your question is pretty vague.

A4 = Automatic Transmission

M6= T-56 Manual Transmission

The differences should be pretty obvious Are you wanting to know weight differences, rearend gearing differences or what?

Sorry I should have been more specific. I'm not doing a conversion I was wanting to know gearing differences and performance numbers would be great as well.

Almost all M6 came with 3.42 gears, I believe few had 3.23 gears while all autos have either 2.73 gears or 3.23 gears. Performance wise the M6 has certain advantages but the A4 has certain advantages as well. It would depend on what you are planning on using the car for...if its just to drive for fun then get whichever you like. Personalyl if you want to make a strip car I would go with an auto, not nessacerily (sp?) an A4 but some type of automatic transmission.

Usually when people start building really high hp cars they pull the stock tranny and install a TH400.

As far as ratios inside the trannys go

4L60E

3.06 first
1.63 second
1.00 third
.7 fourth

I always thought it was:
1- 2.66
2- 1.78
3- 1.30
4- 1.00
5- .74
6- .50

Doh! You're right. I see my mistake. I was looking at a 93 replacement tranny, the 94+ was underneath it. My bad.

The 4L60E should be the right ratios though.

I'd like to have a 94+ with the first 3 gears from a 93 though. I guess I'm going crazy.
