97 4L60E lost 3rd
97 4L60E lost 3rd
So I was driving to the pool with the wife and the car lost third
No indications that there was a problem with 3rd or 4th. Previous owner put a "built" transmission in with a shift kit and some other stuff done to it. 1-2 shift has always been rough. Two weeks ago I changed the fluid and filter and replaced the 1-2 accumulator spring that was broke.
Been driving great, was grabbing 3rd gear firmly. Today out of no where it won't go into 3rd.
Is there any possible way that the 3-4 clutches are not dead?
I currently have a Jasper 4l60e sitting in my basement that I bought as a working transmission, but I do not know for certain that it is.
This is my daily driver and I need it fixed ASAP.
Help? Suggestions? I Don't know much about transmissions

Re: 97 4L60E lost 3rd
Well I me and my wife smelled the fluid and it stinks bad.
1 and 2 shift fine, 3 is gone.
How much does this typically cost to fix? Lets say I remove and install the transmission myself......any general prices?
Also, I am in Mount Airy, MD. Anyone know of good tranny builders around these parts?
