96 Chevy Silverado Question

Got a 1996 Silverado, sounds like the rear end is going out. I'm hearing constant grinding, sounds like metal to metal. The gears are still good, and I replaced the oil inside the housing. I took the cover off to check everything out and it seemed fine. I did notice the noise was coming from the front of the rear axle (towards the front of the vehicle). Does anyone know if there is some sort of bearing that the driveshaft goes into? If so is it hard to replace? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Re: 96 Chevy Silverado Question

There are two pinion bearings in the front of the case which would most likely be your problem. one would have to be pressed off the pinion in order to be removed. I suggest taking it to a trusted shop to have it fixed.

Posted three times on the wrong forum.

PLEASE delete duplicate and triplicate posts.

PLEASE post on the correct forum... this does not belong on "LT1/LT4 Engine Tech". Questionable whether it belongs on any forum other than the "Lounge"..... but I'll move it to "Drivetrain".
