My 1994 z28 with an automatic has been working just fine until a couple days ago. On the freeway again after a couple stops the car went through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, but instead of going into OD it was like putting it in neutral. Just free rev and pulling it down into D or 3rd made no difference. All the way to a stop and nothing. Turned the key off waited a minute, started it and it seemed fine. Took off again and when it was about to shift into OD it just revved like in neutral once again. Pulled over once more, checked the fluid and it was where it was supposed to be on the dipstick.



Not wanting to leave my car on the freeway I started it again, put it in D and took off. It happened again at about 55 or 60mph so I popped it in to neutral and turned the key off and coasted. At about 35mph I restarted it, put it in D and accelerated back up and did it all again and got it home that way.



What kind of problem does this sound like?
