93 to a 94 4L60E
I have a 93 Z with a bad tranny. I bought a tranny out of a 94 to be a easy swap to avoid a costly rebuild. Only problem is my mechanic says the 94 will not fit in the 93. I dont want to spend a lot of money on this car. So if anyone knows if there are problems like this out there let me know.

You need the entire computer and stuff from a 94.
You need all the MAF hardware(93s had speed density), and countless other doodads to make it work.
Not worth it IMO. The 93's 4L60(as opposed to the 4L60E in the 94), is just the same as a TH700R4. See if you can find one of those instead.

Re: 93 to a 94 4L60E
The '93 F-Body uses a unique transmission. GM went to the 4L60E (Electronic) transmission in '94. Your '93 has a 4L60 (700R4)...but...a swap isn't just that easy. The '93 uses it's own type of wiring harness, and valvebody. If you notice, your transmission has a round 5 pin case connector. This was specific to '93. All previous 700's had a square 4 pin case connector. To make an earlier 700 work, you'd have to swap the wiring, case connector, valve body, seperator plate. The governor and tail housing are also F-Body specific, so you'd need to swap them. This is assuming that any 700 you're looking at already has an electronic speedo exciter ring.
Your other option is to not connect the wiring harness. This will disable lock-up, and burn the 3-4 clutches up pretty quickly. There is a non lock-up valve available for the pump, but you'd have to use a non lock-up converter.
What all this boils down to is, the only 4L60/700 that will work in your '93 without major modifications is one from a '93 F-Body.
