700r4 input/output shaft sizes

Hey guys, i was wondering if the input/output shaft sizes on a '84 700r4 and a '93 700r4 would be the same. im also wondering if the '84 700 would work in my '93, without any other mods, besides the speedo cable....thanks

The input shaft might have 27 splines instead of the 30 splines on the later 700r4's. You really dont' want the 27 spline because they are super weak. To check, just count the number of teeth on the input shaft. The output shaft splines are all the same.

To get the speedo to work all you have to remove the reluctor wheel on the output shaft of your 93 and put it on the 84 output shaft. Then you can just use your VSS from the 93.

Any reasone why you want to go to an 84? the 93 would be stronger....

Im going to be using the older 700 until i can get my 93 700 a heavy duty rebuild, so instead of not driving my car at all, ill drive it using the older 700, it's been rebuilt not too long ago, and im getting it for $100, so it's just temporary....thanks for your help about the speedo....

Just so you know,

Your torque converter from the 93 700r4 will not fit on a 27 spline 700r4, but if the older 700r4 is a 30 spline, then it will fit fine.

Its the same bolt pattern, you should be fine just bolting it up.
