7.5" open carrier for spool question

OK...I bought a Richmond spool for my 7.5" 10 bolt in my '93 Z. To install it, I need an "open" carrier. This isn't a big deal, because alot of S-10's had open rears.
My current carrier is a III series, because it originally came with 3.23's. I have 4.10's in it now. Do the "open" carriers come as series II and III also. If so, I'll need a series III "open" carrier to reuse my 4.10's, correct?

I would think so, because what determines 2 or 3 series is the thickness of the flange that the ring gear bolts to.

Frank, the "open" carriers are the same in regaurds to 2 or 3 series. My big question is this.... What did you buy? Sounds like you bought a mini spool because I have never heard of a full spool for a 7.5" 10bolt. Assuming you bought a mini spool from Richmond, then you still have a problem. The mini spool was made for a 26 spline axle. As far as I know all Late model F cars have 28 spline axles.

Yea, B, I know the fifference about the splines. I'm checking with a few companies to get axles for it, too.

Frank, this has been gone over many times before. You are about to run into the problem of axles. Nobody makes a 26 slpine axle to fit a late model F car 10 bolt. It will have to be custom made or you will have to lenghten one from an older rear. Either way its gonna get expensive. You might find it easier to just part out the rear and buy a basic 12 bolt with a spool. Even new it will only be slightly more in cost... and 10X stronger. But if your really on a budget.... you may be better off just finding an open carrier and modifying it yourself with a welder.

Thanks B,
That idea has been scrapped. I could've had Dutchman make a set of 26 spline axles, but they would've been 1.125" diam., as opposed to the 2"+ of the 28 spline.
Richmond neglected to tell me all the hassles that came with the spool though. When I originally e-mailed them, I told them I needed a mini spool that would go in WITHOUT changing anything else... They gave me the part #, and I ordered the spool. First thing I found was....Needs to be put in an open carrier. Then I found it needs 26 spline axles....
Besides, I'm going to need c-clip eliminators for the 10's next year, anyway. It'll be getting a 12 bolt soon.
