6L80 tranny

Hi all, I'm relatively new here, but not to the automotive scene

And I've read through a number of threads where people report stock failures with their 4L60 transmissions...

My question is, are there any pro's, who can tell us if the new 6L80 will have as many problems that the 4L60 had? Lutz has said that GM has been pouring money into bullet-proofing drivetrain components, so will the 6L80 reflect that?

I cant speak about the 6L80, but I think a 4L80 would solve some problems folks run into.

N/E = New England?

North East.

I'm really interested in how "bullet-proof" the 6L80 is going to be. That'll be a MAJOR deciding factor in which tranny I opt for. I've heard that the Borg-Warners are truly bullet-proof. How true that is

The 60E is not really anymore prone to failure than any other trans its just in alot of cars so it seems that way . As for the 6L80E very little info except a way to control it will need to be developed and the core price and availability will need to change before you will hear much about it. Trust me we have been looking into it .

Well, that's good news, that it's being looked into . Thanks...

Now, how about the stock 6L80 trannys...how much hp have they been known to handle? I've heard things like 800hp for the T-56...but can GM's automatic handle something like that?

It almost never pays to be an 'early adopter". If you want an OD auto, just get a well built 4L60E.

I just figured that since this new, paddle-shifted A6 is supposed to be the ****, I'd look into it.
