4l80e front pump seal
I put this in lt1 tech bc I have an lt1 but I also have a 4l80e in it, not the 4l60e which would prolly have a similar answer anyways.
So over the past summer I noticed tyranny fluid on the pan of the transmission. I have yet to pull the inspection cover off to check of its coming from up near the converter or if it's the transmission pan gasket.
I'm not sure of the year of the transmission but the 4l80e was completely rebuilt with upgraded parts etc. This was about 3 years ago but I really have well under 1k on this transmission.
But assuming it's not the pan gasket and it is coming from the front pump seal what would cause this? Do those seals tend to fail or just come out at times? It's not a terrible leak but I want it gone lol.
Why would it leak with so little miles. Only other thing I can say is one do get a vibration that's a revolving vibration that does increase with engine rpms. What would be imbalanced?
Rear transmission seal and pinion seal do not leak, checked the pinion angle, adjusted it, vibration was slightly better. I assumed it had something to do with the poly mounts.
But any info or opinions would be appreciated
Thanks
Bobby

Re: 4l80e front pump seal
I've talked to a friend of mine and he brought up the idea that maybe it's the dipstick tube. I can find out more when I get the car out but if I remember correctly the dipstick is not anchored up top where it normally would be so it would be free to vibrate and twist with the motor. That's on my list also.
As far as the vent tube goes to see if it's overheating that's way on top of the transmission which wouldnot be accessible unless I pulled it. There very little room in the tunnel lol. But I'll try my best

Re: 4l80e front pump seal
Turned out its the pump seal. I noticed that the dust cover doesn't fully cover the converter area there is a gap. Don't believe it's the right cover. I assume this is what caused the seal to go bad?
Anyone know of the dust cover from a sbc 4l80e will bolt directly to the 4l80e going to my lt1 considering the sbc lt2 design is basic?
