4l60e won't shift out of 2nd

Hi there, just traded my 5.0 mustang for a 95 Z, this car I guess had the tranny rebuilt, but still didn't work right after the rebuild, and the shop that rebuilt it wouldn't warranty it. The guy I got the car from said something about the computer not being reset when they rebuilt it, so the solenoids might not be engaging, and that it could be put on a scanner and be fixed. I'm not a chevy person, but I have a hard time believing that would fix the tranny. Symptoms are: doesn't shift out of 1st till after 3k, no matter what. You have to let off for it to shift into 2nd. After you let off in 2nd, revs drop like it's a false neutral, and then doesn't go till you get the revs back up. No 3rd or 4th gear to be found, reverse works, and you have to put it in overdrive to go forward. In 2nd or Drive (manual shifting) tranny just slips.

I'd like to not spend $1500 on a rebuild if that's possible....

also, there's a clunk sound under any hard acceleration, bad tranny mount?

what's the best stall speed for 3. 73 gears?

thanks!

Sounds like a rebuild to me.

As far as the stall....you should get the stall speed to match the powerband of your cam.

Im not a pro at trannies, but you have similar problems that i had. It sounds like oyu may need another re-build. my tranny was barely shifting and giving me a "false neutral" when i let off the gas too, it turned out to be a cracked piston (or something like that) that puts pressure on the clutches. it was bleeding off pressure and burned up my clutches. just a thought

Sounds like the dreaded OBDI problem to be too. I have seen a thread for a working fix. It requires tunercat or LT1 edit. It's PCM related.
