4L60E Won't pull, could be convertor?

Hi all. I have a bit of a problem and would like any input before I disassemble the wrong thing.
I have a 95Z with an A4.
I was driving down the highway at about 60mph and got down on it a bit to pass a slow moving car. My transmission down shifted and then it acted like it went into neutral. I let off and as the rpm's dropped it hit with a hard bang and went into gear. A mile or so further up the road I started loosing speed. I gave it gas but it kept slowing.
I drove it home at about 40 mph and reving the motor to get it that speed.
I stopped and tried to take off again but the transmission would just barely pull. When stopped I can feel it go into gear but I have to tach it up to about 3,000 rpm for it to move and even then it just creeps a little.
This is in all gears including reverse.
Could it be the convertor or is the transmission gone?

Thanks in advance

I would say that the transmission is toast. Time for a rebuild.

I agree, the transmission is history.

:(

Well darn... That's what I was afraid of. I do have one from a 96 GMC Safari van, it is a 4L60E also. Is there any difference? Is the convertor the same? I know I will need to swap the servo before installing, will I need to do anything else?

Thanks
