4L60E woes...
4L60E woes...
read my sig for a list of mods:
Went to the final Real Street Drags @ WIR Friday night. I was cutting good 60' times (1.7) most of the night. My problem seems to be that my tranny won't shift. I saw the factory tach fly past 7k and peg
. I do have an msd box w/ adjustable rev control. I ended up setting it at 6800 and the car still won't shift. It is pretty embarrassing when you get beat buy a 1977 rusted out FORD P.O.S.
This thing was so bad that in the stage lanes they were jumping on the rear bumper and the opposite corner of the bed would flex up. Everyone that was walking by was laughing and saying "Look at that junk". Talk about a sleeper! I knew better seeing as how he was next to me that it sounded good, and I could not even feel my car idling when he was idling next to me.(open headers....)It had a built motor by I ripped him out of the hole and started to gain on him at the big end of the track after I had to lift off the gas to get it to shift into 2 and 3 gear. Each time wasting precious time having to lift
I know the puter controls the shifting but it just won't shift at WOT. Any other time it shifts fine. Never had a problem on the street, which brings me to my other problem.
Back in May I posted because I had done a burnout and bounced the off the rev limiter. Doing so left me with out first gear in OD. Also I had no OD in OD. I could manually shift the car into 1st but that was the only way I was getting thru the gears. After Friday night, seeing the tach peg past 7k, the exact same thing happened to me. This time all I had to do was shut the car off(learned from the last time) and all the gears were back.... so WTF?
I am at a loss for a reason why. If it is tuning, I am still using the pcm4less tune. It runs a bit rich and I really should have a chassis tune.I want to run nitrous next year so I will be tearing it down for a better piston, canton 6qt, balancer, etc... I will have it tuned down @speed inc. in the spring. I have decided on a built 4L60E so that will be coming also, but if anyone has any thoughts I am interested in hearing them ....

Re: 4L60E woes...
sounds to me like you are having the high stall rev limiter problem,, you need to tune out all the mph shifting tables and use only the rpm tables, and some other things in the pcm, i was having these same rev limiter/shifting problems with my 383 lt4 camaro that runs 10.50's till i built my 4l60e and did some pcm tuning
there are several good posts on here about the obd1 high stall isssue, it has to do with the computer loosing or getting bad speed sensor input during a high stall/rpm, and when this happens the computer goes into a limp mode till you cycle the key and re-start your vehicle
by the way i was there at WIR Real street drags also, i had my beater Red 1999 5.3L S-10 there running 11.90's and i drove it over 200 miles round trip,
way too many cars there, i saw that ford truck, i cant believe they let it pass tech

Re: 4L60E woes...
I'll try to look into it before I rebuild the tranny. I suppose on a chassis dyno they would be able to tune the high stall issue or at least I am guessing they could. Anyhow, it was embarrasing enough having the trouble. The car should be a mid to high 11 second car and all I could manage was a 13 flat. I was wasting so much precious time bouncing off the rev limiter.....
Jaylt4 .... Maybe next year we'll run into each other at the RSD. Thanks for taking the time....
