4L60E vs WC-T5

alright i couldnt get a good search on this cause it would cut me off, so im just wandering what the advantages and disadvantages are for each because i have a junked firebird with the 5 spd in it and a running Z28 with the 4l60e and with 130k miles on the car im lookin into the future as far as whether to get rid of the tranny from the firebird or not, as in would it be better to buy a new 4l60e when the one in my car decides to die, or to do the conversion to the t55, only thing that bothers me about it is, i remember doin a lot of shiftin if i ever got on it wiht the V6 and it was slooow, i could only imagine how fast ild have to shift with the V8 in front of it.. someone told me from first to second would be barely a car length, if thats true.. what fun is that? anyway point is advantages and disadvantages of replacing with a new auto or the nearly new t55 (or is it even possible to mate up to the lt1?) thx in advance for any info

From what I understand the t-5 is a fairly weak trans. I'd imagine it wouldnt hold up too well to a LT1....just get a t-56 if you must have a manual

Re: 4L60E vs WC-T5

but thats the point i dont HAVE to have a manual, i just happen to have one that wont cost me a dime to get, just have to put it in. and the t-55.. i guess it is week, but this is the WC-t55, supposedly rated for upwards of 500hp. or i may be mistaken but i remember reading that somewhere. only thing that bugs me about it is the seemingly really low gears... i remember having to shift pretty quick to keep up with it in the firebird from 1st to 3rd.. after that its easy :-p, 1st to second was almost instant though, and tha twas with a V6.. im just curious if this would hurt or help the V8 in my Z, and how hard it would be to put in the car. main reason im asking about this is cause ive had a few offers on the wrecked firebird, and im wanderin if i should hold onto the tranny or not. but the tranny im talkin about is by no means weak, i have a friend with one in his 5.0 mustang, but i havent taken the time to ride with him since he got it put in, maybe ill just do that and stick to straight up proof instead of formalities and possibilites... ah well anyone have any good info on the wc-t55? and also.. how long does a 4l60e last under normal driving.. 135k miles on it normal driving, im sure it was got into once or twice.. hah.. and im puttin a minor shift improver kit into it in hopes of makin it last longer.. but how long will it really last on avg?
