4L60E transplant

I'm swapping my 4l60E for a T56 in the camaro. I'd like to put the 4L60E into a streetrod project. What do I need to do for this type of a swap? Is there a control box that I can buy for the 4L60E trans? This will hopefully go behind a carbed 327 or 350 chev. Is it even possible to do this, or do I need to buy an LT1 motor, and use a camaro computer and harness?

Thanks!

Matt

If you're going to a T56 you're going to get rid of the old harness anyways, so just use that to transfer over to your hot rod.

I believe that I will use the old harness. I think that there are just a few connectors and such that I have to re-wire. I will still use the old computer, and have it re-flashed.

Re: 4L60E transplant

I don't see a benefit in keeping the 60e, especially if it is going behind a built motor, unless of course you have already built up the 60e... A stock 60e will blow in short order in a street rod...

Just sell the 60e and if you want to have a 4spd auto in the street rod, use a built 700... Plus I think it will be cheeper to buy a built 700 and just through it in, then it would be to build and then go through all the computer crap to run the 60e...

Don't get me wrong the 60e is good, especially if built right (not from the factory), but in your case I don't see why you would want to try.

Re: 4L60E transplant

The reason I'd use my 4l60 is that it is fresh. I had it rebuilt last year to the tune of $2700 (thank goodness for extended warranties, huh!!!) I maybe have 3500 miles on it.

This will go in a '35 olds convert with a mild SBC. I'm not too worried about it being beat on. I just want the overdrive! I'm sure that it would be simplier to just go and buy a 200, or a 700, but I already have the 4l60 and it is all ready to go (2200 stall, shift kit, billet servo, etc...).

TCI makes a stand alone controller for swaps like yours.

Last time I checked their kinda expensive but for a street rod I think it would make a cleaner install.
