4L60E shift cable replacement

Hi Guys

I have a 1996 RS Camaro, 3.8 liter V-6 with automatic transmission.....my shift cable broke on it the other day and i dont have anything......no "park/reverse/neutral/OD/D".....it will run in 1st and 2nd gear and the car starts in gear and the key wont turn off.....major drag.......my question is ....how hard is it for me to replace the shift cable?

i have already taken the shift plate off and the molded plastic piece that connects to the shifter that runs into the plastic tube is what broke on mine....the cable was really twisted on it and snapped....

can someone tell me what is involved and how much time will it take me to replace it.....Thanks

I forget the exact steps I used but I remember it being pretty darn easy. Def. takes less than 30 minutes.

Pretty easy. The hardest parts is fishing the new cable in, and getting the rubber grommet in the floor.

Re: 4L60E shift cable replacement

How do you get the grommet out? Does it come out the bottom?
Update: Got the grommet out, just pulled the cable straight out.

Now i'm stuck trying to get the new grommet in Could use ANY tips/help. I've lubed it up a tad with some oil. Still can't get it to seat right though!

Frustration 9/10 right now :X
