4L60E rebuild advice
Re: 4L60E rebuild advice
Use the Borg Warner Hi-Energy 3-4 clutches & Borg Warner Hi-Energy 2-4 band. These have worked very well for years in all of my performance buildups. The prices on these are very reasonable. The "modified" Trans-Go Performance Shift kit, HD sun shell, etc. If you have questions on this, let me know?
Re: 4L60E rebuild advice
Raybestos blue clutches matched with Kolene coated steels, set up to the appropriate clearances are the way to go. Also you should look into an Alto "Wide" 2-4 band..
And as Dana pointed out above, there are many other parts that make up a good rebuild aside from steels and clutches...
Don't forget about:
shift kits, "Billet" 2 nd servos, 4th servos, larger pressure regulator boost valve, "High RPM" pump slide spring, H/D sun shell, and definitly upgrade to a New Borg-Warner 28 element input sprag.
This is a good start off the top of my head, good luck with it...

Re: 4L60E rebuild advice
Pass on the "torque drive" stuff. You can add the HD sleeve & cryoed piston to your existing input drum, & the "beast" sunshell at less than half the cost. 5 pinion planets are not worth the extra cost, since the 4 pinion setups are not breaking now. Too much money is spent on unnecessary upgrades on these units.
Re: 4L60E rebuild advice
Again, I am in total agreement with Dana on this, planet upgrades are not necessary.. However, I have seen a few 4 gear planets break, but also have seen 5 gears break too, it all depends on how everything is put together, and how it's used... But definitely upgrade to a HD sun shell like "The Beast"...
Follow the link in my sig if you are interested in upgrading the planets though, Great price on rebuilds and they have done a lot of 4l60e to 4l65e conversions.
Dana has some good stuff too, but my preference is Frank at CPT first, then Dana at Pro-built, but both are quite knowledgeable.

It only took about 3 hours to remove and another few hours to put it back in, the hardest part was the cooler lines at the tranny...
I need to re-read the warranty but I know it doesn't void it by doing it yourself, but lets say you forget to put fluid in it, and I would guess he could tell and that would void it then...
