4l60e Q
I have a 96 with a rebuilt tranny (less than 2K on it if that much) that has been sitting in the garage for about a 2 years. I got it out about six months ago and all was well then all of a 2-3 never completed just revs. Afterwards I noticed a slight shudder in drive off idle. Reverse is fine.
Well, having been busy with a new little baby girl, I haven't taken the time to investigate until yesterday. So, the same symptoms apply.
Other notation:The fluid level seems to be high but no aeration noticed (didn't get much further in my search after realizing that my brakes seem to have found a way to suck air into the line just sitting up
)
So, what are the guesses?

So no third or fourth, you're saying, all the time or some of the time? Sounds like your trans is shot to me either way, I suppose. When my trans went I lost third and fourth, we checked all the electronics with a multimeter and everything was in spec. Most likely a clutch pack was spent.
Re: 4l60e Q
Frank, the trans is just about brand spanking new. A fan went south and zapped the pcm I believe (not codes but crappy running,very rich, no fan with MAF or MAP disconnected etc) and it has just been sitting around. I wounder if there is crap in a valve or a solenoid problem
The day the 3rd went, it was fine then 3rd went instantly. No slipping to that point, just free wheeling.
If I yank the pan is there anything that you can I can check out? Fluid looks good. from the top. I need to test the 1-2 & 2-3 valve with the meter I know. I hoping the components being new and not having time to wear coupled with the long sitting period after the rebuild might have caused a sticky situation.
What do yah think?
