4L60E? problems...

ok well i just bought a 93 Z28 and it only has 1st and reverse. i knew the previous owner and at first it just lost 2nd and then a couple weeks after that 3rd and 4th went with it. it has the stock tranny which i thought was a 4L60E but he says its a 700R4. ive heard that it may just be the cylinoids but ive also heard it could be the valve body. any ideas would be nice. thanks!

It is a 700R4 (4L60), and it needs to be rebuilt. What are you looking for, in terms of a transmission? Torque converter?

Seals in the valve body and the bands.... maybe clutches and steels also. I'd get a nice rebuild kit and have someone build it for you if it's just a bolt on car. If you need power look to many of the good transmission builders out there.

well since it needs to be rebuild i think im gonna find a good builder and keep the 700R4. i do plan on runnin it sometimes but its gonna be an everyday driver too so i think im gonna go with around a 2800 stall converter.

ok well today i went to take off the cover for the governor gear but im not exactly sure where that is. there are 2 round covers in the rear of the drivers side of the tranny. one is bigger than the other and the smaller one has a sheet metal clamp around it. also, should i drain the tranny fluid before i try this?
