4L60E Problem
4L60E Problem
I have a friend that has a 2001 Z automatic, thats pushing 386 hp at the wheels and he is on his 4th transmission. The first was stock, second was scewed by the mechanic, and the third completely shattered the driveshaft back excluding the rearend. The third supposedly had corvette bands, but its all gone. I am just asking to see if anyone has any thoughts about this.
sorry to hear about it. I had (4) 4l60Es in my 95. the first two were in dealership warranty. The 3rd and 4th were jasper replacements. The bands would burn up supposily, and i'd lose 3rd and overdrive. Weird thing is all the times it would happen under normal driving, just start slipping and sure enough, i'd have to keep it in 2nd otherwise it would shift into a "neutral" state. I would have thought 1st to 2nd would be lost also.
My lt1 was only pushing prolly 325hp, only bolt-ons, 2.73gears and stock torque converter. The first tranny was the the spur gear, but the rest were the bands burnt. The Jasper was the best deal i guess, it lasted well over 25k with can't remember how many sticky track runs. They told me they would only warranty it if i put on a cooler though, which was fine with me. I bet if it wasn't for running circuits and downshifting and playing in first hard, it prolly would have stood up to the track/daily use for much longer. To answer your question though, I traded it in and said hello to six spd. although when the second jasper was put in, it was under warranty still, so it was cool.
