Hi everyone! I'm new to the site, but I I have found it very helpfull thus far!
I have a 1994 Z28 with the 4l60E. Just a few days ago, I noticed I no longer have any "engine braking" effect when coasting in low1, low 2, or drive. I still have "engine breaking" in overdrive though. The trans shifts flawlessly, and the fluid is full and not burnt. When letting off of the throttle in 1,2, or drive it is almost like pushing in the clutch on a manual car while at speed. This happens at any speed......when I let off, the engine just practically idles (about 1000 rpm). The trans does not slip, and still ocassionally "chirps" the tires during a wot 1-2 shift. I have read a few posts on this site that mention the trans needing rebuilt for this problem, but it is flawless in every other way.
Any help you tranny guys could give me would be great!

Yeah, it needs to be rebuilt. It's the overrun clutches, I believe. All the other things that work ok, probably won't for too long.

You can replace it for however much you can find one for....and deal with the same crap down the road. Or, you can talk to Frank from www.cahallperformancetransmissions.com and get a quality tranny rebuild that you won't have to worry about. Originally Posted by km9v

Either your over-run clutches are cooked, or your lugs are broke off the over-run hub of your input sprag. Both are pretty common.

Thanks to everyone for the quick replies! Does anyone have a good source for a rebuild kit that will last? I checked out the sticky on what usually fails in these transmissions.....great info! I guess I am looking for a complete kit that would have all of the updated parts so I don't have to worry about this trans for awhile. I plan on doing the rebuild myself (I work on Mercedes for a living), but will need a good manual etc.. since my knowledge of gm transmissions is next to nil! Thanks again for all of the help! Awesome message board!
