4L60E interchange

My wifes 96 vert has a near expired tranny. I was going to rebuild it this winter but it dosn't look like it's gonna make it that long. I found a line on a cheap 4L60E from a 93 C1500 P/U. Is it the same??? I know the Z28 used a 700R4 in 93. Will this tranny work in a 96 Z28? Will the P/U tourque converter stall higher or lower?

I just need something for a few months

Thanx

Re: 4L60E interchange

No...The '93 and '94 4L60E's don't use a PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) solenoid for the TCC. This means the the valvebody has an extra solenoid in '95-up models.

BTW, who are you considering to do your rebuild?

I was actually gonna contact you about that as I only live an hour away. This car is a play toy for my wife. It's gonna stay stock axcept maybe a CAI and a cat back. It won't get beat on except for the ocasional putting a mustang back in it's place.

What would you suggest?

Sounds like you'll be in "Performance Rebuild" territory.

All the parts are listed here.

Re: 4L60E interchange

I assume HARD PARTS are parts that are broken that you won't know about thill you tear it apart?

Hopefully I don't have any. It's working fine, it slips in 1st & 2nd when you get on it hard. Driven normally it shifts fine, just takes a bit to initially go into drive and fluid looks and smells like burnt oil.

Just to be clear, this is not correct. '93-2002 A4 F-bodies, regardless of model, used the 4L60E. As Frank said, the '93-94 cars had a slightly different setup than the '95+ cars, so you'll need one from a '95+ car.

Personally, I'd just send your current one to Frank. He has the best prices and the best reputation -- can't go wrong with that combo!

yup, 93 f-bodys used the 4L60(renamed 700r4)

94 up f-bodys used the 4L60E

but, the 4L60E was around starting in 92, so all before 95 didn't have the PWM solenoid, all 95-up did

Re: 4L60E interchange

The whole PWM issue can be taken care of with a simple computer reflash.
