4L60E.....help!!

Trans functions normal during all upshifts, even WOT. Crisp and firm.
The problem I got is that is durning the 4-2, 3-2 downshift (kickdown) is that it seems to downshift normal but then slips for a split second and catches and then shifts normal.
Any ideas what's going on? Car had 156,000 miles, trans fluid is brownish pink and probally a solid quart or more overfull. About half an inch above the full hot line maybe more.
I half a$$ checked it when I bought it and never paid attention after that. Pretty much has had these issues since I bought it 9 months ago.

This is not good news. The brownish pink fluid is burned. With the trans being overfilled, air becomes entrained into the fluid, which then causes lack of lubrication, low line pressures, and ultimately clutch plate glazing from the slippage.

The fact that it has been driven this way for 9 months is not good, either.

Probally that way for well more than 9 months. I changed all the fluids in the car when I bought it with the exception of the trans. One of those ill get it too it tomorrow deals.
I checked it when I picked it up....it was full but could of been full cold. and the same color as it is now.
Damn. Guess ill just nurse it till I get the funds for a trans from CPT.
I have no plans to ever have this car as more than a DD. It was a northern car and salt has not been very kind to it or the previous oweners. I've spent a lot of time cleaning it up, replacing tons of crap inside and outside.
I dunno. Maybe a +1 up from the base rebuild will be fine for me. At most it will receive is full exhaust and gears. No plans to dig into motor.

Do you know if this is the original transmission from the car?

? No clue Frank like I said in our emails back and forth. You made a mention it could be a 96 or 97 trans. What would cause my issues if it was that wrong year and what can I do to fix it. Also how do I check for the year of the trans while in the car?

the only way to tell is to check the 3-2 downshift valve, in the valve body.

Many less than reutable transmission shops would mismatch these units when doing swaps.

If it is the wrong year, a seperator plate and valve body swap should fix it.
