4L60E Flares up going into 3rd gear
As the title says my trans flares up going into third gear. I've had the trans rebuilt 2 times so far and the problem will not go away. I have a 10" 2800 stall non lockup converter in it and some good internals aswell. If I am half throttle or more the trans flares up but the car still pulls. If I go to the track, the car won't shift and bounces off the rev limiter going into third gear. I had Brian Herter from PCMForLess raise the limiter and drop the shift point, but that did not help. Brian told me that I have a code 43 which has something to do with my knock sensor circuit and that that may be doing it. I just need some ideas of what this may be before I go ahead and start ripping the trans back out of the car to get it rebuilt again. I am frustrated and any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom

Check around the for sale section in all the F-body boards and you should be able to locate a low mileage 4L60E at a good price. A tranny shop quoted me $1700 to rebuild mine. I am guessing you are paying at least a grand where you live. Sorry I can't help with your actual problem though. Good luck.

Re: 4L60E Flares up going into 3rd gear
I had the same problem. but my car is an ls1, so the computer is differnt. AS you may guess from that statement....the fix was in the programming. On the ls1 you can set the computer for how fast the trans shifts gears. I shortened the time on the 2-3 shift and the flareup was instantly gone. Ask Brian if he can do this on your car.
Also, check your fluid level. I know when mine was only half a qt low the 2-3 shift was delayed.
