4L60E compatibility
4L60E compatibility
I know a guy with a '97 Z28 (30th anniversary edition).
The stock 4L60E is dead and needs to be replaced. He does not want to upgrade.
I found a stock 4L60E w/ converter in the classifieds, from a '94.
Before I tell this guy I found him a tranny, I want to make sure that they are interchangeable.
Thanks!
Incidentally, once the replacement tranny is in, the car will be for sale...

Re: 4L60E compatibility
It won't work. '94 is a "stand alone" unit. It will ONLY work in a '94 vehicle. In '95 GM changed the lock-up strategy in the 4L60E, which neccessitated an extra solenoid on the valvebody. Your friend is limited to a '95-'97 F-Body 4L60E.
BTW, if he wanted a "performance" rebuild, we do them for $800. How much is he looking to pay for a used one that he doesn't even know works?
Thanks,
Frank

I asked him if he wanted to upgrade -- he said no, he wanted to keep it stock. I'm not sure how he would feel about your "performance rebuild". Can you elaborate on what that would involve and how it would be different from a "regular" rebuild? Do you do "regular" rebuilds?
Thanks for the info.

It's $700 for a base 4L60E rebuild. You can check the differences on our web page. Just click on our link, and go to "transmission prices and modifications".
Thanks,

So you're saying a '98+ transmission won't work, right? Just out of curiosity, why not?
