4l60e & 13 vane pump?

Im rebuilding a 4l60e and am purchasing a 13 vane pump as one of the upgrades, but the site warns that the transmission must be full of fluid when using the 13 vane pump before raising the motor speed above idle. Am i just missing something or shouldnt the transmission be full of fluid rather quickly?

the transmission pan must be full before cranking the motor, then with the engine idleing, immediately add the rest of the quarts. a 13 vane pump will suck the pan dry otherwise.

Dont use the 13 vane pump, its useless. The 10 vane is a better choice. 13 vane takes up too much space with the vanes and doesnt really flow any better. Go with the 10 vane.

If your pump came with the 13 vane setup "originally", then staying the with same will not hurt it. But if you want to improve the volume of the pump, stay with the 10 vane setup. I only use 10 vane setups in all of my performance builds.

Re: 4l60e & 13 vane pump?

Well i couldnt find any 10 vane pumps for sale at any of the sites i looked at or ebay. Only 13... what do i do?
As for the filling it thing... so i have to fill up the pan atleast full of oil, then start the car and keep adding quarts until i have completely filled the transmission, that makes more sense than how i was interpretting it.
