4l60 seal?
ok so my front tranny seal went out. so i drop tranny in the process of takeing pan off i notice that my fillter is already sitting at the bottom of the pan.is this bad?also what else should i do while tranny is out?

You can replace the filter seal, in your pump. The pan holds the filter in the pump.
BEWARE! Make sure that the junk teflon bushing GM used in these pumps hasn't walked. This is the most common cause of front seal leaks. Once you get the seal out, get a small screwdriver in there and try to move the bushing. if it moves, you'll have to pull the pump to replace it. When you replace it, get a 700 style babbit bushing. Make sure it fits tight in the pump. Check the pump for cracks, around the bushing. On many occassions, when the bushing walks, it'll crack the pump.

ok so the bushing is behind the seal, ill check that.so how do i go about checking the pump?or better yet how do i get to it?as far as the filter seal are you talking about the little orange one about the size of a nickle?sorry for my lack of know how by the way this is all great help thanks

It may be hard to see a crack, if the pump is still in the transmissions. Yes, the little orange thing is the filter seal. You can pry it out with a screwdriver...Just be VERY careful that you don't damage the surrounding aluminum.
