4L60 on it's way out...

Well, it feels like my 143,000 mile 4L60 is on its way out... shifts are getting really sluggish, i've flushed/changed the trans fluid, nothing has changed, so I figured it's on its way out. Realistically, would I make a better choice by getting a T56 or rebuilding/building up my current 4L60 and getting a torque converter? I figure I can get a mid-mileaged T56 setup with pedals and everything for $1000-$1400, then I would want to upgrade my gears to 4.10/11's in the rear end and get a TA rear girdle for a little more strength. If I got the current trans rebuilt/built, i'd end up spending probably $1000 on getting it built, another $400-500 on a good converter. I really just don't know what to do... maybe a little guidance/experience from others on here who might have done the swap or a build.
