with a th 400 would a the stock shifter work? and also with a 3.42 gear ,26 tall tire at 75 mph what rpm would be turning thanks

Still no answer if the stock shifter would work? I don't think it will but I figured someone would answer this, or at least let me know and I will answer this question from this point on..

not trying to take away from getting your question answered, but.. Why are you getting a 400, It can't be a race car if you are running 3.42's? so what is the need for the 400?

400s dont break easy like 4l60 w/all the good parts "i broke 3 to many in 8 months" long story pumps,z pack . i want a 4l80 but the comp.that ctrl. the trans it cost 1g. so i have to save up for awhile or go with the 400. the promble i had was my dial pins.Any ideas on a shifter?

A lot of people who swap in the TH400 opt for a full manual, reverse pattern valve body, then throw on an aftermarket shifter. It can be done with the stock console.... I just saw pictures posted on another forum of a B&M Pro-Ratchet in an A4 console. I have the same shifter in a stock M6 console.

Hey Fred - Do you remember the forum that you saw that pic? I'll be installing a Hurst Quarter stick in my A4 console this week and have been looking to get some ideas . . . otherwise I was going to get an M6 console.
