4.56 gears.

I have a 97 Formula (w/6 speed) with 4.11 gears and many many other mods. I'm looking to put 4.56 gears in because i have to put it in 5th gear about 100 feet before the finish and i want to finish fifth gear out at about 6000. Just wondering if anyone has a 4.56 and what gear they finish in.

I'm guessing i have about 450 HP all motor and 600 HP w/ 150 shot NOS/wet. I run 315/35/17R Drag radials and many suspension parts.

try punching some numbers into the gear calculator.

compare what you run now at the finish line to what you would with the bigger gears.

You'd be better off going down to 3.73s so that you don't have to shift into 5th at all. Fewer shifts is better, and you're working with more than enough power to get off the line quickly with 3.73s. Plus, 4.56s would be hell on the street.

i had 3.73 and when i went to a 4.10 i gained about .4 in the quarter. I was hoping that 4.56 would improve my time. I only drive it to work once a week so i really don't care about gas mileage. I run an 11.80 at 116mph and thought 4.56 would drop my trap time. I have no problems off the start. I spray all the way and slip very little. My 60 foot is 1.7.

i'd rather not say, I haven't got the combo right but this is no street car either

You may want to shift it a little lower and run 4th out....it took me a while when I had a 6spd. to get the right shift points....I did best with a lower shift point and your light should be on when going thru the traps...that way you should be in 4th right about 600 ft. out or so, about 3 cars from the 1/8 if I remember correctly. mostly just takes some seat time
A 4.56 is going to slow you down unless you have some more RPM to work with
