4:11? 6 Speed
4:11? 6 Speed
i have a 1995 z28 6 speed my cuz is takin out his 4:11s from his 94 z28 A4 im thinking of taking them and puting them in mine. how bad will the gas mileage be and bad to my engine
Re: 4:11? 6 Speed
Your 6 speed will handle the 4:11's much better than his A4. Your gas milage will mostly depend on how you drive it and how much city driving you do. I have 4:11's in my 95 and have had for years. My gas milage wasn't bad at all. As far as your motor goes, it dosn't have anything to do with it except for the fact that you will have to shift at a lower speed than you were used to before. If you change the gears, make sure you have someone reprogram your pcm for the gears so your speedo is correct. It is doine really easy with tunercat or lt1 edit. Good luck
Re: 4:11? 6 Speed
Gas milage is the least of your worries. A more major concern is the abuse your stock 10-bolt rear is going to go through. This should be the title of your thread, "Can my rear handle 4:11's?" If your running your car at all at the track, then you can pretty much count on it breaking. There are some lucky ones out there, but the majority of people break their rears. And thats just with stock gears. If you want to save your rear, you better take it easy out of the hole, which is probably not going to give you the times you want. Another option is throw the 4:11's on, with a Drag Radial and launch her out of the hole, get nice times, but break the rear. Neither of them options sound good to me
Another option is to rebuild the rear (which still isnt reliable) and at most, throw some 3:73's on her. For me this does not sound like a good, reliable way to go neither. The best way, but also most expensive, is save up for that 12-bolt or 9". Without buying a new rear its not even worth gearing it any.

The 4.11 will not live in a stick, because of the small pinion size.It is about the size of an egg.The 3.73 will live with a Tortional posi and a girdle and being set up right.
Re: 4:11? 6 Speed
I don't understand why a 12bolt or 9" would be stronger. Are we talking about the case itself?? Surely the gears aren't going to be smashed are they??
Can't somebody just make some stronger internals/axles to fit the stock rear end??

i lucked out and found a friend that put a 12 bolt on his car before putting gears into his 10 bolt...so he had no use for his 4:11's that he bought so he sold me both the 4:11's and Zexel posi (both brand new) for 100$

Hell of a deal
Re: 4:11? 6 Speed
I am a victim of 4.10's in a 10 bolt w/ a M6. My recomendation would be 3.73's. I loved my launches before I broke 3 ring gear teeth clean off, and a spider gear tooth clean off. Gas milage was about the same for me. Personally I'm going back to 3.42 until I can afford a 12 bolt w/ 4.10. It's really up to you, but I hope you have some spare cash for a new rearend when (not if) this one takes a crap
