4.10's worth it in an A4???
4.10's worth it in an A4???
I'm looking to buy a 12 bolt and stay with the 3.73's. My friend suggests I try the 4.10's. Would the 4.10's and my 2800 stall be that much more of an improvement over the 3.73's? Also, with the steeper gear can I get away with a 26" tire or do I need to step it up to a 28" tire? I want to buy the M/T drag radials for my salad shooters but before I do I want to make sure which tire size will work better with the 4.10's. Any advice you guys can give is appreciated.

I use my car primarily for the track now (no longer my daily driver). I plan to keep the car N/A (cam, rr's, maybe heads). I run 13.0's @105 mph on 1.8 60 fts. Just wondering if the 4.10's are the way to go.

well, it also depends on what cam you want to get
if it mainly likes to operate in higher rpm ranges, those gears could keep it better in the powerband and help on the launch
then again, it could just make your job of launching all that more difficult

I ran 4.10's behind a bone stock LT1/all motor '93 Z. The car ran 12.82. After doing my head/cam combo, I was on my shift lite about 75 ft. before the stripe, and I was making a 3-4 shift in the 1/4. The car went 12.0 like that. Last winter, I swapped in a set of 3.73's without doing anything else, and the car slowed down to a 12.2. I went to 3.73's with the intent of running nitrous, though.

Depending on how far you take your car, the 4.10's should work fine for you
. As you increase power, and increase your trap speed, you'll start running out of gear in 4th. BUT, as you increase power, chances are you'll also increase the rev capability of your motor, so you can still run higher trap speeds. If you get limited again, you can always run 27" or 28" tires, and get more trap speed capability again
.
For a good street/strip car, I think the 4.10's are just about perfect
