4.10's and 10 bolt
Despite what many people think, 4.10s will not shorten the life of your rearend. They might in fact do the opposite. They are easier to turn over (think about starting a mountain bike up in the highest gear, causes more stress on the gears, chain and you) Plus you are less likely to get traction and thats what destroys rear ends.
If you are going to get 4.10s though, I'd suggests getting 4.11s, they're stronger.

I had 4.10's in my stock 10 bolt for two years and made 70-80 passes with drag radials and it held up fine even with an M6. I made many passes in the low 12's with it. I just sold it to go with the 9" recently but the 10bolt was still in good shape. I would definitely recommend using a solid pinion spacer instead of a crush collar and a heavy duty support cover with studs. I'm convinced those two things helped mine survive so long. Like Grease said, 4:11's are a better idea, those gears are a little beefier then 4:10's and should be stronger.
Thank for the info guys. My b-day is coming up and my dad asked me what I would like. I told him about the sale new era was having on gears. And he was concerned about putting a 4.10 in my stock rearend.
I agree with the others.....4.10's should actually be easier on the rear since they're easier to turn. Those are my thoughts exactly!
The difference between 4.10's and 4.11's is 41/10 teeth and 37/9 teeth respectively. Less teeth on the same size gear should mean thicker teeth, and thicker should mean stronger
