Re: 4.10 in a a4

I have an A4 with 4.10s. As it has already been mentioned, say goodbye to traction on the street without any sticky tires. They are fun to drive but get REALLY annoying on the highway especially with loud(er) exhaust and a cam.

Re: 4.10 in a a4

Also A4, 3000 stall, 4.11s.

It's perfectly streetable and drivable, but WOT with 400hp and 4.11s isnt going to hook through 1st and most of second even from a roll with 4.11s.
Driving anywhere on the highway above 70mph blows period.

Gas mileage for me around town didnt change much. I still get around 20 on the highway too.

At the track with some stickies though, you cant beat em. Picked up 4 tenth going from 3.23 --> 4.11

4.11/A4/3200 Lock up

2700 RPM at 70 mph locked up,I drive 300 miles round trip to track every weekend.[23 mpg]

Street,it spins 1st,2nd and part of 3rd then hooks up.

I find it very liveable.

Had M6 with 4.11 and got a little better gas mileage, about the only diffence[and 600 rpm cruising]

This .3-.4 gain is assuming traction though right? Although the thought of gaining .4 from just gears is entertaining, especially 3.23's.

Re: 4.10 in a a4

I don't know, I was running slicks at the same PSI and the same amount of burnout with both 3.23s and 4.10s but I never managed to get a better 60' out of the 3.23s. Maybe my 3.23 rear was bad, who knows.

EDIT, I forgot to mention that I have a crap SLP 2400 stall which is probably what's causing the bad 60's, so I guess the improvement is from gears after all, but I would still recommend 3.73s for daily driven A4s. (I drive mine very rarely) 4.10s for 6 speeds.

Re: 4.10 in a a4

Just curious cause I cut a 2.0-.1 60' on stock GSC's my first time to the track, no burnout. Needless to say after a bit of modding the GSC's are no longer I better start talking myself away from these 4.10's and into better traction.

EDIT: I figure the 2800 SLP is crap too then huh? Alright thanks for the additional info.

A4+4.10=no traction. Hey I think I actually have a post with the same title.

Judge for yourself:
burn. This was on 275 tires with my small stall and by letting off early (not much distance).

A higher stall with a nice STR would probably destroy those tires.

Re: 4.10 in a a4

I have 4.10's with a TCI 3500 stall/2.5 STR converter and its a blast. It does get kinda loud on the highway but I get the same mileage in the city as before(crappy ) and lost on 2-3mpg on the highway oddly enough. Id try and match the gear by looking at to your cars mods(present and future) before you decide. Also, the gear calculator posted earlier in this thread is a great tool to have in your favorites...it is for me anyways.

a4 + 4.10 = lots of fun... i know someone around here with 4.56s in there a4 but they dont drive it much and they have NO traction. Think back to the old days when guys would run 4.10s in the a3s...my sisters 73 chevelle spins 3k rpms at 70 with 3.23 gears i think dont remember for sure.

You cant post pictures like that without a diclaimer, the midlength/shorty guys will have a stroke! EDIT: This kind of performance can also be obtained by mids or shoties. Whew, good thing I caught that for you, nothing like header affirmative action.

Madwolf: I saw that thread and video, way to go, ruin the storage place's parking lot

Yea, my 70 Olds 442 has 4.10's with a TH-400. Never have been able to keep a set of tires on the thing.

There are guys here with stock suspension and DR's with 4.56 &5.13 gears running 1.30 60". A lot more power than stock so thems with 4.10 that won't hook--ya ain't leaving hard enough.
