3rd gen axle in a 4th gen?

Is it possible to run a 3rd gen axle in a 4th gen? The prostars I have right now are acually the right backspacing for a 3rd gen, and stick out a little on my car. Just curious if I could use this (9 in. for a 3rd gen) and use spacers to run my SS wheels.

Anyone? I found a deal on a 9" for a 3rd gen and am trying to find out if it will work.
Thanks

Mounts for shocks, springs, LCA's and panhard rods are the same for 3rd and 4th Gens. The 3rd Gen will be 3" narrower. The brake mounting brackets may not match.
