3rd of 4th gen rear end in a first gen?

does anybody know if a rearend from a 3rd or 4th gen camaro will bolt on to a 1st gen? ( 1967 ) if so what mods will it need to function properly?

Not likely.... the 1st Gen has a leaf spring rear suspension, the 3rd and 4th Gens are lower control arm/torque arm rear suspensions. You could weld the leaf spring brackets on. Then you would have to address the shock mount position. As I recall, the 1st Gens went to a "staggered" shock configuration, either from the original 67 model, or starting with the 68 models (my 68 Firedird 350 had staggered shocks). The 3rd and 4th Gen rears have both shocks in front of the axle.

Additionally, the 3rd and 4th Gen rear axle assemblies are notoriously weak.... most 3rd and 4th Gen owners want to replace them. The 4th Gen assembly has the added problem of being extremely wide, to the extent that it limits rear wheel selection, requiring huge offsets and backspacing.

Obviously, with enough money and work anything can be made to work, but the cost/benefit ratio appears to be poor.
