3 channel to 4 channel

i have a 96 lt1 a4 with 3.73. posi that has 10000 mles on it. The car does not have traction control. i would to bolt the rear end in my 98 ls1 4a that has 2.73 right now. But this car has tracton control. I believe that this car is a 3 channel were as the 96 rear end is a 4 channel. I know that it will bolt in but what problems will I have with the traction control? Will i be able to convert the rear end to tracion control or will i lose it all togther? Will my pcm be ok with everything else or will it throw a code? any help would be great. thanks josh

Re: 3 channel to 4 channel

You 96 is likely a 3 chnl and your 98 likely a 4 chnl. I think only the 93-97 cars with traction control were 4 chnl and all 98+ cars are 4 chnl. I could be wrong. The best way to check is if the sensor is on the top of the rear diff then it's a 3 chnl setup and if there is a sensor at the wheels it is a 4 chnl setup. I don't think you'll get a check engine/ses light just an abs light. As for converting the 3 chnl to a 4 chnl it might be possible by using 4 chnl axles and various other pieces. Making the 4 chnl work as a 3 chnl is fairly simple as people do it with the aftermarket 9" Moser's all the time by using the sensor on a ring on the driveshaft. Do a search you should be able to find specific info on these things.
