3.73 or 4.10 w/ the giggle gas

I am the type of person who thinks things over 100 times before actually doing them. I was planning on 4.10's within the next month or so since I will be getting a bonus at work.

Well, I am slowly but surely finishing up the nitrous kit on my car and don't know if the 4.10's will be too steep of a gear.

Just like the title says, should I go with a 3.73, 4.10, or stay with the stock 3.42's with the nitrous???

Select the gears based on the tire diameter, engine redline and estimated trap speed. Then put enough tire under the car to hook. 4.10's would force you to shift into 5th gear at ~110mph. Since the car would appear to be able to achieve higher trap speeds than that, you either need to stay with the 3.73's or use a larger diameter tire with the 4.10's.

I am probably going to stick with the stock tire size (around 26" diameter) so 3.73's would be my best bet. Thanks!!!

Motive Gear now offers 3.90's for the 10-bolt!! They're good 'til about ~117 mph in 4th gear (@ 6000 RPM) with 26" tires . I've got a set on order for my car right now .

I don't know for sure, but I'm "assuming" they're a 39/10 ring/pinion, where 4.10's are 41/10. If that's the case, my "theory" is that the 39 teeth should be slightly thicker than the 41 teeth on the same diameter ring gear? "Hopefully" they'll be marginally stronger than the 4.10's that I already blew out of my car!!

With my stock 245/50/16's and 3.73's, I passed threw the traps at 110mph @ 5700rpms. Seeing your mods and with some nitrous, you will trap higher and thus force you to shift into 5th if you went with 4.10's. Also I've driven both 3.73's and 4.10's on the street and I can say that it is not worth it to A) have weaker gears due to the smaller pinion of the 4.10, and B) have to shift alot more frequentley with the 4.10's. I highly recommend the 3.73's as a good all around gear for the track and driving on the street.

What about the 3.90's?? I have been looking into them and think this might be the way to go.
