3.42's on a 97 auto?
3.42's on a 97 auto?
i checked my codes, then checked again, it is GU6 for sure. does this mean i have 3.42's? reason for asking is because i thought only m6's came with 3.42's from the factory. i searched and couldnt find an answer.
okay update it says G80 as well, no Y87 or Y86. the last one says Z28 but i think thats a given. what does G80 mean and do i have 3.42's?
its a auto and it sure as hell feels like i have them. thanks for the input everyone btw

Well Y87 was only for the A4 V6 cars after searching, sorry, should've double checked first before posting. G80 is for the limited slip/posi, not gears.
GU2 - 2.73
GU5 - 3.23
GU6 - 3.42
If the RPO is indeed GU6 check the RPM/MPH against a calculator like www.f-body.org/gears/ Maybe someone special ordered the car with 3.42's?

I think you're all missing the point. If the VIN on the door matches your title and your window VIN, most likely somebody converted the car to auto. They may or may not have changed the rear end when doing so. Look for the transmission code. In my case, the previous owner changed over to auto, he bought the whole auto drivetrain engine to rear end, and had 3.23's to keep it "stock". In your case, you may still have the 3.42 rear end.
Look for option code MM6 (6spd RPO code), if you have that, it's a 6spd car from the factory with an automatic swapped in.
If you have the M30 (4L60E code) AND GU6 in your RPO codes, that would be... well, unheard of.

Yeah, something doesn't add up
.
Either your door code is in fact GU5, or your car wasn't a factory auto
. OR, the factory maybe an error, because LT1/4L60E/3.42 was NOT an "option"
