3.23's:what speed to roll race?

First off let me tell you that I love to go from digs, but sometimes I will go from a roll. Tonight I went from a 1st gear roll with a manual and I was at 1k rpms and he was at 4k. :-/

Anyways, what are the best speeds I should go from with a Auto ls1 with 3.23 gears.

Re: 3.23's:what speed to roll race?

depends on the roll speed and what gear u choose to start from in your A4. If you want to cut down the time of the auto down shift, manually put it in the gear, then just pop it into 3rd or D once u get going.... highly doubt you'll race to anything over 120, unless u don't care much about life.

Well I usually just leave it in D all the time even when I race from a roll. Im just saying what is the best roll speed to do it with. (Yes I do care about life and dont race past 105 which I get a lot of **** about) lol

Re: 3.23's:what speed to roll race?

25 mph or a lil over is where you want to be. Just be carefull you dont go over 30mph because then the car will shift into 2nd instead of 1st and your RPMs will suck. Try going at different speeds and see at what speed it will no shif into 1st which will be around 30mph by flooring it. When you figure out what the maximum speed for the car to shift to 1st is just slow it down a few MPHs and your set.

I usually go from 20 to 25 on a roll any faster than 25 kinda sucks for me.

The majority of my races were around 120 so I had to keep it in OD. Heh.

Another question is can the stock automatic take the abuse of manually shifting it? Is it not safe to do so?

u can manually shift it up safely, but why do it when the tranny can shift faster than u ever could. Downshifting into anything below 3rd or D isn't the best idea.

Unless you want to drive around making noise by having your engine revved up, dont shift manually. You wont see any gains, it will most likely hurt performace, and cause wear on your tranny. Just figure out your sweet spots and youll be set.
