are 3.08s a good idea?
I want to do 3.08s on my camaro a4 with street tires, I don't want to go bigger than that so I can still getgood gas milage and I think 12% higher ratio is good enough. My questions are, Is a richmond 3.08 less prone to breaking than a stock 2.73?, Do you think I have a good chane of breaking it with a soon to be 330-340rwhp car? and what are some guesses in my ET drop?(0.1/0.2?) I won't run stickys cause im too scared to break it. Thanks.
^^^ Id have to agree i had a 95 Z A4 went to 3:42's felt a difference but wish i went to 3:73's. If your that worried about gas mileage do 3:23's some factory camaro's came with those and there pretty quick when i eventually got my 01SS 6speed they would actually easily keep up and in some cases beat me. But if your gonna open it up go with better gears then 3:08's if not just keep what you got. I do understand what your saying, from my own experience when i went from 2:73's to 3:42.s in my 95 A4 the cruise speed on the highway was about 400 rpms higher, gas mileage did suffer a bit but the end result was a car that got off the line much better stayed in its power range longer and got there quicker. As far as breaking it, its always possible with our rear ends now in my 1993 6speed im running 392 rwhp 434 rwtq with 4:10's. Ive had 3 camaro's did rear changes in all definitly worth it if you select the right gears, as far as how much it will shave off the E.T thats always gonna be a guess but if you go from 2:73's to 3:42's its about .3 - .4 tenths thats how mine was on my 95 A4 street tires not slicks. Go with better gearing and ofcourse even better. I did it for the main reason stated above but last but not least its hella fun with better gearing.
