2.73s.. to 3.73s.. back to 3.42s!
2.73s.. to 3.73s.. back to 3.42s!
So I originally had 2.73s... (UGH!) and got some richmond 3.73s and installed them... FIVE times. I STILL cannot get the damn whine out of them... its either a clunk and little whine, or no clunk with whine and a sort of "growl" when I come to a stop... I'm sick of it!
So on to my question, if I happened to find someone on here (or ebay, or wherever) that had a rearend from a 6 speed car with 3.42s... could I take that carrier/pinion and its shims and just slap it in my rearend? I'd most likely replace the carrier and pinion bearings... but I wasn't sure if it would work since my rearend has a series2 carrier in it, and anything 3.23+ is a series3 carrier...
Thanks in advance!
Edit: I tryed setting the play from 6 thousandths (what its at now, with no clunk but that growl when crawling to a stop) clear to 13 thousandths (got little to no whine, but a stupid clunk that you noticed when coming off a cruise or when it shifted in a parking lot...)
(Oh and if any of you know of a good place around the St. Louis or NE Missouri area that can setup rearends good, let me know!)

Yes yes I know this... but in my searches when I was looking for gears at the time... Motive only made the gears for a series THREE carrier... stock 2.73 cars have a Series TWO... only Richmond had them for my carrier. No clue if they'd of worked, or if Motive does indeed sell them for a series2... and if they do give me a link! lol I'll be happy to put in a different set of gears... damn these richmonds.
