It will be like night and day. With 3.73's the car will be a lot more responsive in any gear and on the highway and will cry out "Do Me! Make me accelerate"
It will truly feel like a real muscle car should.

The only downside is that an A4 with 3.73's won't downshift into 2nd on the highway if you floor it the way it would with gears from 2.73 to 3.42.

When you floor it off the line, YES, you'll feel the difference. However, you'll have to get used to the car, and where the automatic shift points are.....unfortunately the computer doesn't downshift when/where it should, and you're actually left with more "dead spots" than with 2.73's (I know this from experience, having had both 3.73's and now 4.10's in my car). BUT, the solution to some of these dead spots is to manually downshift the tranny at the same moment you hit the gas (usually only 1 gear down is required) and that will put the motor into its power band, and you'll get the improved acceleration you were looking for. Also, don't be surprised when you realize how little the car is in 1st gear! It's hardly ever in 1st!

I went from 3.23s to 3.73s and I felt a big difference with the shift kit in it it was like a different car.
I agree that 1st gear does not last long with the 3.73s but its a 3.06 first gear so it makes sense but to me the car pulls better in every gear. With street tires first gear is a smokeshow, you really need suspension and tires to take full advantage of the higher gears.

3.73's will also help you're 1/4 mile times since they will keep you from shifting into O/D wich is never good on the auto tranny when in full throttle.

I have to second what the Capn says, After reading his first post of his 4.10 install I went and had my gears installed ( Motive ) couldnt be happier howel a little but got used to that, the power taking off is cool as hell real night and day diff.

Are you saying this because you need to start out in OD with the 3.73's? Even with O/D I'm crossing the line in the redline and making no power. If I didn't use O/D I'd never leave the redline.

As far as changing from 2.73's to 3.73's do not hesitate to do it. Without a doubt the BEST performance and SOTP mod I've done.

With 2.73's, you're nowhere near hitting over-drive in the 1/4 mile!? It's usually either crossing in 2nd gear, while hitting the rev limiter, or just shifting into 3rd gear. With 3.73's, you're crossing somewhere around ~5200 RPM, IIRC. However, with 4.10's, I cross the line around ~5800 RPM in 3rd gear.

BTW, to hit over-drive with factory 2.73's while under full throttle, you've gotta be doing around ~165 mph!!!! That ain't gonna happen in 1/4 mile!!
