They have no speedo gear....it is magnetic pulse driven. You will need to get
a SLP speedo calibrator box from SLP. Splice it into the output pulse wire of the speed sensor. You then can adjust the signal to the speedometer to compensate for the gear change.

Re: 1993 z28 gear change?? Speedo??

you can get the drive and driven gears from gm parts direct and here is the part numbers:
GM p/n 25513052 (44 tooth driven gear) $12.78

GM p/n 8642620 (15 tooth drive gear) $7.56

the install wasnt too bad,, first pull the torque arm off, followed by the driveshaft, unplug the speedo sensor and remove the tailshaft of the tranny,, inside the tailshaft you will see where the drive and driven gears are,, just replace them and be carefull when you beat the new drive gear on the shaft,, all together it took me about 2hrs to do

Actually you can just change the drive and driven gears in the tailshaft of the transmission. Unfortunately I can't find the GM part numbers for those right now. You can use this website to calculate the ones you need though.

either of you 93 guys over on the speed density board by chance?

*edit* mickeyiz28 got em!!

You have to use the SLP box for a 6 speed. However, I've heard rumors that the Dakota Digital box works as well.

I have the Dakota Digital box and it works very well. I mounted it under the console so I can still reach it with the shifter plate off.

Good to know. We were having a debate a while back over on the Speed Density board about whether or not a Dakota Digital box would work. How easy was it to figure out the correct settings on that box?

All you do is just hook it up, set the 4 dip switches, and then there is a button you push to make the speedo go up or down. I just used a GPS to set it.

Ebay. SLP discontinued the speedo recalibration box. Look under the Ebay Username "FoundaDeal" as he usually is the only one selling them. I've seen them go for as little as $70 and as much as $130, and they're all brand new still.

Does the slp box work for a4's as well or no? the part numbers above are to go from 3.23 to 3.73? How hard would the install of either be?
