1984 elcamino help

well guys, my friend has a 84 elcamino with a 350 (year unknown) that has a 4 barrel carb on it.
we discovered that his tranny was low on fluid, basically empty
we filled it with tranny fluid and it ran fine for a day or so
the other day he went to take it out and it was slipping horribly
so, is the tranny pretty much gone for good?
what would be possible options on replacing it?
i know th350, th400, 700r4, but are there any 5 speeds that would work?
he wants to do a manual conversion, but idk any 5speeds that are really strong enough, maybe an old muncie 4speed or somethin

they made a stock manual trans in that body style, get the parts and put in an old 4 speed saginaw or borg warner trans, most 5 speed swap will end up with thousands in it. if money is no object check the old hot rod or car craft files. they did one once but i believe they had almost 3000 in it
